Homelessness- lack of affordable and appropriate supportive housing for young mothers and their babies
Poor Attachment- Lack of strong attachments leads to long term insecurity, poorer mental health and schooling, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Mental health- Young mother often face issues of feeling isolated, stressed, relationship and financial difficulties impacting mother and child's mental health
Petra provides supported housing with a focus on 'home' this enables mothers and their babies to feel safe, financially secure and supported helping to build lasting bonds with their babies. Our mothers also learn the life skills needed to move onto independent living with confidents.
Cost of employing support workers-Mon-Fri 10am-2pm plus out of hours support
Set up costs for house- White goods, carpets, furniture, kitchen equipment etc
Building costs- New kitchen, Bathroom, Fire alarm system/Fire doors
New supportive home for young mothers & their babies
Mother and Babies remain together- Petra provides the support to help mothers thrive as new parents and build lasting bonds
Mother sees improved mental health
Mother moves onto independents, with the knowledge and skills to run their own home and successfully manages own tenancy
Take pressure of other local housing services, mother positively engage with community groups (toddler groups). Mothers become good neighbors when they move on
Mercy in Action works to alleviate the suffering of children living in poverty in the UK and Philippines through feeding, education, shelter and love. Our dream is to see an end to the abandonment, abuse and trafficking of children, and to see housing for all.
